If you’d told me one month ago; that I could ever do makeup on anyone, I would have showered you with a basket of dry laughter. Who? Me? Makeup? Na!

But guess what? @tebereartsfoundation tasked me; as an emerging artist; to do makeup for the Man to Man production, under the guidance of Uncle Michael Wawuyo Snr. (and later, with Tebere staff Ginny Kyokusiima). I was quite anxious for sure. I did not know anything about makeup beyond applying lipstick & more recently, a layer of foundation. Regardless of my brief background in modelling, makeup had never been on the list of things I aspired to learn. But when they gave me this task, the Tebere staff were sure I told them I was passionate about this artistry during my interview. I had no memory of saying so. When I told Uncle Michael Wawuyo Senior that I barely knew anything about this craft, He told me not to worry. But he reassured me that my entire being, & physique screamed (Make-Up) & that I would pull it off. He was the 2nd person to tell me that after Rosette, also a staff at Tebere Arts Foundation. I remember Rosette precisely saying that “… it’s okay. Sometimes some people can do some things but they don’t know yet. It shall be alright” This was her response when I pointed out to her that I was unsure about my potential in this department she had placed me in. I guess she saw something that I wasn’t able to see then.

Uncle Michael Wawuyo Senior is allegedly one of the best/best Special Effects Makeup Artists in Uganda’s entertainment Industry. I’m happy he is mentoring me in this craft

Uncle Michael Wawuyo Senior also told me he started doing the craft when he was about my age. See? All the signs I need from above 😊🤩💫. He is such a helpful mentor & teacher. I am glad this challenge, which I am now developing a strong passion for, was presented to me.

My colleague & Tebere Staff Ginny has been sharing, teaching & empowering me too. A lot. I can’t wait to see how all this goes. I’m grateful.

Man to Man is a stage play, that is showing in Uganda at Ndere Cultural Centre Auditorium, and the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) popularly referred to as the National Theatre; this July and August 2023. The play was written by one of Uganda’s legendary playwrights Charles Mulekwa PhD, directed by Amelia Mbotto Kyaka, and produced by Tebere Arts Foundation. I’m blessed to be only the production’s make-up crew with Ginny Kyokusiima, and I am as well an Emerging Artist under Tebere Arts Foundation’s EA Intesive Lab.
